It’s been a rocky year for Tumblr. Verizon recently acquired parent company Yahoo, and growth has been lower than predicted.
Now Tumblr has announced new ads that give bloggers a cut of the action.
Sharing is caring
Yahoo display and Gemini native ads are now rolling out across the network and its 550 million monthly users.
Tumblr explained in a post that users would get part of any ad revenue generated on their account, but didn’t go into details about what percentage it’s handing over.
Tumblr bloggers have the ability to opt-out of the new system.
Money for nothing?
While Tumblr has offered ads for some time, it hasn’t had the breadth of options on Facebook and Twitter.
This announcement could mark a move towards monetisation under the guidance of Tumblr’s new parent company. And a new way for brands to reach millennials.
