Spot is a social network app aiming to bring ‘real people together in the real world’ so they can ‘make moments’.
Not a new Tinder
That lead line might sound like a half-hearted campaign for Tinder, but this new app focuses on local events.
In an interview with TechCrunch, app creator Oren Peli said was moved to build the app after becoming disenchanted with coffee dates and wanting to connect with people over shared activities and interests.
Events, not hook-ups
While that might sound like the story behind a dating app, but it isn’t. It is an events app.
Spot users—or ‘Spotters’, as they call them—can set up or join local events. Events can be publicly promoted or set to private.
The public ones appear to others in the area, giving them an opportunity to get up-close and personal in a real-world thing.
The last part of that pitch might sound like it’s for booty-calls. But no. Events.
Available near you, not for dating
Spot is available now on iOS and Android.
It’s also worth noting that Spot might be leaving itself open to a pivot. There are only four categories that can be given to an event. One of the four is ‘Singles’.
Spot could be a good way to build a brand community, even if it’s not for intimate liaisons. How might your brand use this new app?
