Snapchat's march (or more accurately, sprint), towards monetisation has ramped up a notch with the release of On-Demand Geofilters.
Filtering the message
Geofilters allow users to add graphical overlays, such as artwork and logos, to snaps.
For example, a picture taken in Times Square might feature a Geofilter of the Statue of Liberty.
Now On-Demand Geofilters lets brands create their own – for a price.
Snap it up
It works like this: you create a filter using an image editor, or one of Snapchat’s templates.
You then pick a geographic location where the filter will appear, along with the dates and time it will be available. Once the filter is approved you can purchase and publish.
On-Demand Geofilters can be purchased for an event or entire block – anywhere from one hour up to 30 days. Pricing starts at US$5.
Make it rain
There are already two sorts of Geofilters on Snapchat: Community Geofilters – which are free but cannot contain logos; and Sponsored, which allows logos.
Now brands have new way of attracting Snapchatters.
