Six months can be an eternity in the porous world of tech. Back in February SXSW was rocked by live-streaming video app Meerkat.
Now locked in a cut-throat battle with Twitter-owned Periscope, Meerkat remains top dog in the emerging live video streaming market. For now.
Here's a few stats from the fledgling app.
Young guns
Meerkat was released in February this year, after being in development for just eight weeks by Ben Rubin.
After setting tech hearts aflutter at SXSW, Twitter promptly cut off Meerkat's access to its social graph and launched its rival video-streaming service Periscope.
However Meerkat saw a 30% boost since Twitter cut them adrift, and recently raised US$12 million in VC funding.
First look
There are now over 156,000 Meerkat users around the globe, and they tend to be a very engaged bunch.
Some 20% of users watch two hours of live streaming videos daily.
Arm wrestle
While Periscope and Meerkat slog it out for live-streaming dominance, the race is close.
In May Periscope live-streams were shared 1.51 million times on Twitter in May.
During the same period Meerkat was a whisker ahead, with Meerkat live-streams shared 1.52 million times.
Brand vision
Brands have embraced Meerkat's live-streaming capabilities for activations and launches. Red Bull, CNN and The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon are all kicking goals on the app.
It's also tipped that all the major candidates in the 2016 US Presidential Election will have Meerkat accounts.
Currently Jeb Bush is considered the pollie most proficient in its use.
