Google lets users add to Street View

Google has announced “Street View ready,” allowing anyone with an Insta360 Pro camera to add to the Street View database.

Google Maps gets communal

The process initially made possible by Google’s Street View cars is now being made available through the launch of “Street View auto ready” devices.

The first official device with an 8K 360 degree camera is the Insta360 Pro, via a software update specifically set for Google’s criteria.

A new USB adaptor will also be made available for users to attach GPS info automatically to captured images.

Street View gets adventurous

Allowing the public to add to Google’s Street View imagery database could mean a significant expansion to Street View locales.

Areas previously not available to Google teams may be accessed privately and added to the database through various third-parties.

The Insta360 Pro currently retails for $3,499 and it’s the only certified “Street View ready” camera.

However, Google will be making the camera available through rental to qualified individuals which may mark a new era of exploratory image capturing.
