Google is taking the gloves off and cracking down on offensive Search results.
It’s a Wonderful World
Google’s made a number of changes to its search ranking, feedback tools, and transparency rules to reign in the amount of offensive or misleading results that surface on Search.
Google now prioritises content that has been fact-checked, and lets users provide feedback on inaccurate autocomplete suggestions
Currently, around 0.25% of daily searches return offensive or misleading content.
Blowback
The move is part of a wider push by tech companies against fake news and offensive content. Twitter has come down on trolls in a big way, while Facebook continues to battle inaccurate news posts.
Last year Google endured criticism around the validity of its search results being gamed by fake news sites. While YouTube recently came under fire for displaying offensive content next to paid ads from big brands.
Here's hoping the updates will lead to a more accurate, and civil, search experience.
