With Google, bigger is almost always better.
And so goes the thinking behind a sizeable update for Google Drive.
Drive me Home
Google Drive will soon be able to back up your entire computer, via a new app called Backup and Sync.
If that’s a bit of overkill, you’ll soon be able to direct Drive to back up entire sections of your computer, including files and desktop.
It’s unclear how you’ll be able to use your uploaded data in Drive, or whether Google will offer compatibility with rival cloud services.
Cloud talk
The move comes as Drive looks to branch out from occasional back up disk into a fully-fledged cloud service.
At the moment Drive backs up 15GB for free. Yet with most computers containing hundreds of GBs of data, paying for Drive to have your back could prove an expensive exercise.
Still, Google will presumably hit the market with a competitive price point, while gaining an edge of rivals such as Dropbox.
