Facebook is aiming to show a more diverse range of news sources with its latest tweak to Trending Topics.
Read all about it
Trending Topics now shows news stories based on an automated system. This means all users will see the same stories.
Previously, Facebook curated news stories based on individual preferences and behaviour, and re-wrote headlines pulled from news outlets.
Fake news fight
The update is a fight against hoaxes and fake news, which came into the spotlight during the 2016 US Presidential Election.
At the time Trending Topics was run by Facebook employees, some of whom were former journalists.
This led to accusations of bias influencing which stories were seen to be "trending", and also resulted in some fake news stories being spread.
Now a line of computer code is levelling the playing field and ensuring we're all exposed to the same news.
Whether it leads to less hyperbole and vitriol remains to be seen.
