Facebook wants users to go “truly interactive”, step away from passive viewing and become more participatory – in videos at least.
Engage
The social network wants online viewing audiences to participate with live-streamed content, making viewing more meaningful.
Facebook recently announced new ways for creators and publishers to create engaging and interactive video, starting with a polling features for on-demand and Live videos.
They’ll also be releasing features for the “gamification for Live,” tools meant to help add polls, challenges, and quiz questions.
How it’s going
Facebook saw success incorporating polls into their Watch show “Help Us Get Married,” where viewers could vote on wedding plan details like theme and venue.
New interactive gameshows are also coming to Facebook Watch to further test student participation. Shows include “Confetti” by INSIDER (a daily pop-culture quiz show), “Outside your Bubble” by BuzzFeed News (a cross-culture quiz show), and “What’s in the Box” by Fresno.
From testing knowledge to guessing what’s in a box, which does sound sort of fun, Facebook is throwing everything it can against the wall to see what sticks.
