Facebook has penned a £200 million deal to start broadcasting live events with its first foray into televised sports.

Facebook has kept it no secret that they intend to get into broadcasting in a big way, hiring Eurosport CEO Peter Hutton for negotiating worldwide live sport streams.
During the 2019-2020 season, Facebook nabbed live broadcast rights for league games held in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam, due to their large British football followership.
According to The Times, Facebook acquired the rights at auction and will be showing 380 games, beating out BeIN Sports and Fox Sports Asia.
Building up
Facebook has already tested the waters of sport livestreaming with MLS and La Liga matches, but the new deal is far more substantial.
Amazon Prime has also secured rights with the Premier League. While similar content could be coming from YouTube and Netflix as well, marking a major shift in how users consume their sporting events along side original content. We’ll just have to Watch and see.
