Air New Zealand’s Facebook booking app Kia Ora, from the traditional Maori greeting, is the airline’s latest addition in its award-winning social media strategy.
Take flight with Facebook
Kia Ora lets Facebook users book flights by inputting their travel requirements into the app, which then directs to Air NZ's booking page.
While the transaction is not completed within the Facebook eco-system, Kia Ora offers a new channel for the airline to direct its 233,000 Facebook followers to its website.
Social heavyweights
Air NZ is the 36th largest airline in the world based on passenger numbers, but ranks as the 6th largest airline in social media presence.
This ranking is largely due to their active, engaging and personal presences on what Air NZ social media marketer Tommy Bates calls the big three: Twitter, YouTube and Facebook.
CEO Rob Fyfe says Air NZ looks constantly to various social media platforms as key tools for airline customer engagement and feedback as well as achieving global media coverage and brand awareness.
