WhatsApp comes to the Web

WhatsApp devotees rejoice: the super popular app is now available on desktop.

As long as you're an Android, BlackBerry or Windows Phone user.

WhatsApp with that?

WhatsApp announced the news in a blog post, explaining its new web client essentially mirrors the app.

This means users must have an active phone connection to use WhatsApp on desktop.

On the grow

WhatsApp currently has around 500 million users, and was acquired by Facebook last year for US$21 billion.

As the instant-messaging war heats up, the move to desktop might help WhatsApp get a leg up. 

Sorry Apple users, at time of writing no iOS desktop iteration of WhatsApp is in the works.
