Snapchat continues to innovate over the competition with the addition of stylised filters, backdrops, and finally, links.
Adding links to the social media chain
Snapchat has long had a “no links” policy regarding its platform but finds itself changing direction in order to stay competitive and add more share-friendly content to conversations.
The new “Paperclip” feature will allow users to send a link which appears as an incomplete Snap until opened.
Snapchat’s internal browser will take users to the shared content and voila. But to curtail any objectional content, a preview will appear next to the swipe-up arrow, to avoid undesirable material.
Fancy backdrops and character voices add fun
A trace tool will now allow users to cut-out specific objects from chats and place them against whimsical backgrounds, rotated daily, bringing focus to specific images.
Speaker icons at the bottom of the screen will now enable users to toggle on and off character voice filters, bringing a bit of humour or flare to the exchange.
The back-and-forth between Instagram and Snapchat is spurring a great deal of new features and whether competition follows suit remains to be seen.
